Passage: 2 Timothy 1
We have finished exploring the first letter from Paul to Timothy, and now we are starting his second letter to his 'dearly loved son'. Paul is in his second and final imprisonment and knew that his work was done and that his life was nearly at an end, which gives this letter an emotional tone.
Throughout this letter, Paul was concerned not just with Timothy but also with the welfare of the churches during this time of persecution under Nero, and he admonished Timothy to not be ashamed of Jesus (1:8) and to guard the gospel (1:14), to persevere in it (3:14), to keep on preaching it (4:2) and, if necessary, to suffer for it (1:8; 2:3).
Especially in this first chapter of 2nd Timothy, we will talk about the spirit of fear and shame that hold us back in our journey with the Lord. How can we go from being afraid and ashamed to become strong, bold and courageous witnesses for Jesus Christ?
