New Ministry at South Calgary
Updated: Sep 16, 2022

For some time already, we have been thinking and praying about starting an ESL program at our church. And in these last months, we believe that the Lord has been calling our attention to this specific need in our community.
We have several new landed immigrant families from Ukraine that have been attending the Russian Language Ministry, and learning the English language has become a high priority.
We also have around Cedarbrae a reasonably large number of newcomers that have been struggling to find or maintain jobs because of a lack of proficiency in the English language. In times of economic crisis, this aggravates the situation.
We would like to start offering classes twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm; however, these days and times will obviously depend on our volunteers' schedules.
Our goal is to offer conversation classes where we would discuss a variety of topics, including discussions about the Bible, God and church. We also want to give an opportunity for our future students to develop their vocabulary, and pronunciation and learn new idioms.
So we are looking for native English speakers that have some proficiency in the English Language, have a heart for teaching, and feel the Lord's calling to volunteer in this new ministry.
If you are interested in helping with ESL classes, we will have a meeting next Tuesday, September 20th, at 6 PM here at the church to present and discuss the details of this ministry.
Just to make you laugh a little bit, watch this funny commercial for an English School as it pictures well the struggles of speaking a second language. :D
