Darkness had launched an last attack to God's redemption plan. If Jesus would give up, Darkness would win. However, even in the midst of so much pain and suffering, Matthew portraits Jesus victory on the cross and its consequences for the followers of Jesus Christ. What had happened on the Friday would change the world forever.
