The Real McCoy

Sermon from Pastor Sam Medeiros | Worship leader: Cecile Jaster

Passage: James 1:19-27

The English Idiom “the real McCoy,” is used to describe any genuine version of something, and has several possible origin stories.

One of then is that an inventor called Elijah McCoy, born in Canada in 1844, had many different inventions including an ironing board and a lawn sprinkler. Other companies copied his devices, but these never worked as well as Elijah's so people would say, "I want a real McCoy", or "make sure it's a real McCoy."

James warn us two times in this passage that we should be careful to not deceive ourselves. Why? Because there are true believers who are fooling themselves concerning their Christian walk. They think they are spiritual when they are not.

The question for us to explore our passage is this... how do we know if we are the real Christian McCoy?
