Easter "Choir"

We had such a good time preparing for the Christmas season in song that we are going to do the same for Easter. Starting Tuesday, February 3 we will have choir meetings from 6:00-7:15pm. What does this preparation look like and should you come and join? Please read below for details.

I am actually hesitant to use the word "choir" when I talk about what we are doing week by week as we are not focused on music performance and most often the word choir will put that image into people's minds. So what do we do?

Using music as a framework we meet together to learn more about singing, about why we sing in church, and how the songs we sing teach us about God, our relationship with Him and each other. So, while singing is the structure that gives each meeting shape, the focus of our time together is not music performance. It is more closely aligned with South Calgary Community Church's mission, to be a people who passionately follow Jesus to see all made whole.

One participant from this past Christmas remarked that they felt that coming to choir helped them to prepare their heart for the Christmas season. My hope and prayer is that spending this time together would allow all of us to prepare our hearts for Easter.

So, I hesitate to use the word choir, which also allows freedom of participation. Our goal is not to have a pitch perfect musical performance but rather to prepare our hearts to contemplate and celebrate Jesus death and resurrection, therefore anyone can participate! We will learn enough about music to allow us to sing in unity with the skills and voices God has given us, and with the excellence He provides as we dedicate our time to practice. I suppose in the end, yes, I will call this our choir...with some hesitation.

Please come and join us!

Tuesdays, up the north stairs (far end of the foyer) in the "choir" room, 6:00pm-7:15pm.
