Updates on Pastor Sam

Hello church,

I just want to give you an update, as I know there are people wondering what is going on with my health.

Lately, there has been a significant imbalance in my blood sugar levels and blood pressure. I have also been experiencing constant dizziness and some issues with my eyesight.

Whenever there is any kind of tension or stress, it seems that my numbers can go beyond the normal range, even taking all my regular medicines. So, for now, I am trying to rest as much as I can. Thankfully, it seems that things have improved a little over the past couple of weeks. :D

Just a note that… I am not on medical leave. I had quite a few vacation weeks accumulated, and the elders allowed me to take this time—and I really needed it. In particular, I need to reduce stress as much as possible right now.

However… on top of all of this, I was recently diagnosed with cancer. :(

I know that word can be scary, but at this point, we have some encouraging information. I will be having surgery to remove a growing malignant mass from my leg. The surgery is scheduled for October 7. My doctor has told me that there is a 96% chance that the surgery will completely resolve the problem, with about a 4% chance of it returning within the next three years.

This type of cancer does not typically spread quickly. However, because the mass has been there for some time, there is a possibility that it may have spread to other areas of my body, possibly the abdominal area. Please pray that this will not be the case. We are currently going through additional medical exams to look for any other possible areas of cancer.

I am thankful for the prayers, love, and concern that so many of you have expressed. Please continue to pray for me, for my family, and especially that the surgery will go well and that the cancer has not spread.

I am trusting the Lord through all of this, and I hope to be attending Sunday mornings again very soon!
