Fraud Alert

Dear Church Family,

I want to take a moment to make you aware of an important issue.

Recently, some individuals have received fraudulent emails that appear to come from me, asking for help with a personal financial matter, often involving the purchase of gift cards. Please be assured:

I am not sending these messages, and I will never ask for money, gift cards, or personal financial assistance by email or text.

These emails are part of a common impersonation scam that targets churches and church leaders. The messages are usually written in a friendly and polite tone, may mention that I am in a meeting or unavailable, and often describe a personal situation meant to stir compassion. The goal is to pressure the recipient into acting quickly and privately.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • I will never ask you to purchase gift cards or send money on my behalf.

  • Any legitimate church-related financial communication will always come through official church channels and will be communicated publicly.

  • Requests that ask for secrecy, urgency, or private financial help are strong warning signs of a scam.

What should you do if you receive such an email?

  • Do not reply to the message.

  • Do not send money or gift cards.

  • Delete the email and, if possible, mark it as spam or phishing.

  • If you are unsure about a message, please reach out to the church office or speak with me directly.

Thanks,

Pastor Sam
