The Mustard Seed Volunteer Ministry continues to be a meaningful part of SCCC’s outreach, serving faithfully on the first Wednesday of every month. This year, we experienced both transitions and blessings within the team. Several long-time volunteers stepped back due to relocation or medical leave, while we welcomed an additional group of four volunteers, bringing the total number of new helpers this year to eight. Volunteer contact information has also been updated to strengthen communication, and our serving schedule is now organized three months in advance. Our team had the privilege of attending the Mustard Seed Appreciation Week in May, which was a wonderful encouragement.
Despite changes in team size, the ministry’s impact has continued to grow. Monthly meal service numbers increased from approximately 150 to 250 guests, and SCCC has maintained its monthly contribution of $500 toward meals. Faithful volunteers, such as Earl Slobodian, who serve consistently each month, have ensured that meals are prepared and served with excellence. We are deeply grateful for the service of those who have stepped down, including Jim Prichard, who reliably filled gaps whenever needed.
Looking ahead to 2026, our goals include increasing recruitment to support both the prep and serving teams, expanding our outreach to include the Mustard Seed Foothills shelter, and engaging more volunteers from our Russian congregation. We ask the church to pray for strength, renewed volunteers, and continued provision as we meet the rising needs of our community. May God continue to grow this ministry and use it to share His love with all who come through the doors of the Mustard Seed.
