Worship Ministry 2024

Highlights of the Music Ministry in 2024

It has been apparent thus far that God is not calling us to have a huge, professionally lit, propresenter driven, click track coordinated worship performance here.  We have leaned into simplicity with one main focus, that everyone who comes to SCCC would be  “speaking to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.” (Ephesians 5:19-21)

We have a wonderful team of people who model this to the congregation every week, we have not had a single weekend where there wasn’t a team bringing live music leadership to our congregation.  Thank you Deborah, Adam, Paul, Alex, Anne, Kathleen, Roxane, Ingrid, Johan, Daniel, Kevin, Derik, Josh, and Sarah.  These volunteers have expressed their love for God and for one another by learning and practising songs on instruments, vocally or both.  Not only do we learn these songs musically but we also spend time contemplating the lyrics, holding them up to scripture to see what truths are being written on our hearts as we take them in.  Every Tuesday night is such a good time of fellowship, learning, preparation, prayer and praise.  This spills out into our Sunday service and we have the joy of hearing the congregation sing.  More than once I have given the sound tech a heart attack by saying “once the choir gets here…”, they’re like “what choir??”, right,” once the congregation get here”.

We have intentionally chosen songs that often are directly out of scripture, have simple tunes and are easy to sing congregationally.  We focused on repetition of new songs and this has helped the congregation to learn and soak them in.  Hearing everyone sing makes being up front the best seat in the house.  We pray God is blessed by all these voices raised.

The Tuesday night open session or “sing-jam” has been intimate and edifying.  We studied the book “SING” by Keith and Kristyn Getty and this laid a good foundation for what worship is.  Participants who never plan to lead singing on a Sunday have mentioned that they have a deeper appreciation and understanding of what our time spent singing is for and what worship is in general.

Prayer items

Please pray with us that our team would continue to be led by God and not tempted to become performance focused.  Please pray for more strong instrumentalists to participate with us.  Please pray for lives to be transformed as we study God’s word together.  Please pray for possible opportunities to serve the children of our church with a music program like our adult open session in the new year.  Please praise God for all he has done and continues to do and if that leads you to start singing come join us!

Thank you for the blessing to serve in this way,

Tawnya Hons

Director of Worship
